Compulsory use of a hiring hall effectively turns employers into a closed shop because employees must join the union before they can be hired. Construction Electrician Calls Daily Check In 7:30A.M.-9:00A.M. Book Signing 7:30A.M.-4:30P.M. ( Hall closed 12:30P.M. 1:30P.M.) Re-signs 7:30A.M. A hiring hall is essentially a meeting place between employers seeking workers and employees seeking work. The hiring hall can be a physical location, such as a union hall, office, a dock, or other gathering place, or a 'virtual' hall, consisting of a list of employees and jobs kept in the business agent's head or in a computer. The PWU's Employers require qualified workers to fill casual positions. Through the PWU Hiring Hall, these vacancies are made available to new and existing PWU members. The Hiring Hall was created to fill temporary positions at PG&E in ESC Local 20 represented classifications. Temporary assignments are typically for 2 months to 12 months in duration but PG&E can end the assignment at any time.
